Originally established in 1999 to facilitate the global recognition of laboratory testing and calibration services, the International Standards Organisation (ISO) Standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017 establishes the general requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. This is the principal internationally recognised quality assurance scheme for testing and calibration laboratories worldwide. Which allows a laboratory to be accredited to carry out specific testing or calibration services.
A new revision of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 was in adopted in November 2017, and all currently accredited laboratories are required to transition to the revised version by November 2019.
Achieving and maintaining ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation is a significant undertaking which requires a major investment in time, resources and specialised skills.
